SUBJECT TO ELECTROSTATIC DAMAGE
OR DECREASE IN RELIABILITY.
HANDLING PRECAUTIONS REQUIRED.
Electronic modules can be damaged by static
electrical discharge. While handling this equipment,
wear an antistatic discharge wrist strap to prevent
damage to electronic components. Place modules in
antistatic packing material when transporting or
storing.
After unpacking the unit, inspect it for damage. If
damage is noted, file a claim with the carrier, and then
contact ADTRAN. See Warranty and Customer
Service.
The Quad T1/E1 IMA Module plugs directly into the
Total Access 3000 (23-inch) or the Total Access 3010
(19-inch) shelf. Both are rack-mounted chassis with
28 access slots for the Total Access 3000 and 22
access slots for the Total Access 3010. Both chassis
provide two CSM slots and a system controller slot.
Each access module contains the interfaces and the
appropriate circuitry to interface with the local loop.
No installation wiring is required for the Quad T1/E1
IMA Module.
NOTE
To avoid confusion with the Access and CSM
slots, the Access slots start with the fourth slot
from the left of the shelf and are numbered “1”
through “28” for the Total Access 3000 and “1”
through “22” for the Total Access 3010 on the
underlying silkscreen. Attempting to insert the
IMA Module in either the SCU or CSM slots
may damage the module and/or the backplane.
Pull the ejector on the bottom of the IMA Module
front panel from its closed position.
The IMA Module occupies one access slot. Gently
but firmly push the IMA Module into the proper slot.
Simultaneous thumb pressure at the top (above the
Power LED) and bottom of the module will ensure a
good seat of the pins into the backplane connector.
Push the ejector up and closed against the module
front panel.
Compliance
Table 1 shows the Compliance Codes for the Quad
IMA Module. This product complies with the
requirements covered under UL 60950. The Quad T1/
E1 IMA is intended for installation in type “B” or “E”
enclosures in Restricted Access Only areas. The Total
Access 3000/3010 shelf frame ground terminal must
be connected to an earth ground to ensure that the
front panel of the IMA Module is properly grounded
via the backplane connector.
3. OPERATION
The Quad T1/E1 IMA works only when combined
with a Cell Switch Module (CSM). The Quad T1/E1
IMA Access Module provides four T1/E1 IMA ports.
Each of these four T1/E1s may be placed in one of
four available IMA groups. Each IMA Group can
accommodate up to four T1/E1s and may be provided
to an individual IMA device in the ATM network.
When a T1/E1 is placed in a specific IMA Group, it
works together with the other T1/E1s in that group to
provide a virtual pipeline with a bandwidth equal to
the sum of all the T1/E1s in that Group. If a Group is
provisioned with multiple T1/E1s, and one T1/E1 is
lost, the Group continues to function with the
bandwidth available from the remaining T1/E1s.
An IMA Group can be used to provide network
connectivity to either an upstream or downstream
Network device. All traffic transferred by the IMA
module is processed by the Cell Switch Module that is
installed in the Total Access 3000/3010 chassis. It is
then sent to the proper interface (according to the
address in the ATM header) for delivery to the next
device.
